Nick Heckman

Scranton, Pa. - The No. 12 Ithaca men's lacrosse team (0-1) dropped its season-opening game 12-5 at Scranton Tuesday afternoon. Senior midfielder Nick Heckman (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) scored two goals for the Bombers and three other players added one goal each for the Bombers.

The Bombers built a 2-0 lead in the first quarter as Heckman scored an unassisted goal to open the scoring and then assisted on the first goal of the year by sophomore attackman Tom Mongelli (Kinnelon/Kinnelon, N.J.). Scranton tied the score before the end of the first period, but sophomore attackman Devin Weinshank (Long Beach/Long Beach) put the Bombers ahead 3-2 in the opening minute of the second quarter.

Heckman added his second of the game with 2:29 left to play in the first half and freshman attackman Andrew Bruce (De La Salle/Lafayette, Calif.) scored his first career goal in the second half.

The Bombers were successful on 20 of 25 clears in the game. Sophomore goalie Brendan Green (Pittsford Mendon/Pittsford) made 10 saves in the game, and freshman Luke Robinson (Fox Lane/Bedford) had one save, playing the final 4:35 of the game.

Ithaca returns to action March 10 at 4 p.m. at Union.
