Schenectady, N.Y. – Union defeated the #21 Ithaca men's lacrosse team 11-2 Tuesday evening at Frank Bailey Field at Union. The Bombers won 12 of 15 faceoffs in the game, after winning just four in the season-opening game at Scranton.
Ithaca opened its scoring with 6:46 remaining in the second quarter on a goal by sophomore Andrew Bruce (De La Salle/Lafayette, Calif.), assisted by freshman Brendan Donelan (Brewster/Patterson). It was the second goal of the season for Bruce and the first career point for Donelan.
Ithaca's other goal came in the third quarter, scored by sophomore attackman Tom Mongelli (Kinnelon/Kinnelon, N.J.) on an assist from sophomore attack Michael Edwards (Jamesville-DeWitt/Jamesville).
Ithaca had 52 ground balls in the game, led by senior midfielder Nick Neuman (Madison West/Madison, Wis.) with 10 and senior attackman Mike Lohan (Calhoun/Merrick) with eight.
Junior goalie David Gal (Loomis Chaffee/Amherst, Mass.) made 11 saves.
Ithaca returns to action Friday against #13 Geneseo in a neutral-site game at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse at 12:30 p.m.
