ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's soccer team (2-6-3, 1-3-0 Empire 8) gave #5 Stevens Institute of Technology (8-0-2, 3-0-1 Empire 8) a challenge throughout the afternoon but came out on the short end of a 2-0 score Saturday at Carp Wood Field.
Ithaca's best offensive surge of the first half came in a 10-minute span and was highlighted by three very good scoring chances in a span of two minutes. The Bombers pressured Stevens in the 27th minute and senior midfielder
Bill Barrowman (Bethlehem Central/Glenmont) forced a save at the left post. The ball caromed out to the top of the penalty area and Stevens committed a foul against an Ithaca player about 25 yards from goal. The resulting free kick was a curling left-footed shot from sophomore forward
Ben Lloyd (Amesbury/Amesbury, Mass.) that forced a diving save. Off of the resultant corner kick, senior midfielder
Jeff Geyer (Rham/Hebron, Conn.) shot wide from 20 yards.
Halftime stats were virtually identical, as both teams had six shots, three saves and five fouls. The Bombers held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks after 45 minutes.
Lloyd led Ithaca with four shots in the game.
Senior goalkeeper
Justin Parlapiano (Stafford/Stafford Springs, Conn.) finished with six saves in the game. Stevens scored a first-half goal in the 17th minute to take a 1-0 lead and added an insurance goal in the latter stages of the second half.
Ithaca returns to action Wednesday at Hobart.
