Men's Swimming & Diving Edges Alfred

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team (11-4) clinched the meet with a win in the final event and defeated Alfred 130-113 Saturday at the Hill Center Pool. Ithaca held an eight-point lead prior to the last relay and capped the afternoon with a win in 3:15.46 behind the efforts of freshman Chris Cadwell (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville), sophomore Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.) junior Steve Croucher (Dallastown, York, Pa.) and freshman Jake Robbins (Fairport/Fairport).

Sophomore Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) won both the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.54) and 200-yard backstroke (1:57.62).

The Bombers began the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:39.98. The winning relay was comprised of Rapp, freshman Jake Lichter (Weston/Weston, Mass.), junior Jerry Diamond (Junction City/Junction City, Ore.) and Connors.

Connors also won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.96 seconds.

Alfred set up the exciting conclusion by edging Ithaca in the 200-yard breaststroke by seven one-hundredths of a second. Lichter placed second in the event for the Bombers in 2:18.80 and Diamond was third in 2:19.57.

Sophomore Derek Rand (Amity Regional/Orange, Conn.) won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 262.05 points.

Ithaca concludes its home season with a dual meet Saturday against Union.
