Men's Swimming & Diving Earns Five Wins at RPI's Kumpf Invitational

Troy, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team went 5-1 in six dual meets during the Henry Kumpf Invitational hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Bombers defeated Rensselaer 139-104, Skidmore 193-48, Oneonta 189-48, Clarkson 169-72 and Vassar 178-64. Ithaca was beaten by Cortland 147-96.

Sophomore Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) was the lone event-winner for Ithaca. He touched first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:01.38. Rapp also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.28 and was on the third-place 400-yard medley relay team that finished third. The other members of that relay included freshman Jake Lichter (Weston/Weston, Mass.), junior Jerry Diamond (Junction City/Junction City, Ore.) and junior Steve Croucher (Dallastown Area/York, Pa.).

Sophomore Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.) placed second in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.06 seconds) and 100 free (48.68 seconds). He anchored Ithaca's second-place 400 free relay and was joined by freshman Jake Robbins (Fairport/Fairport), Croucher, and freshman Chris Cadwell (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville).

Cadwell was second in the 500 free (4:59.02) and fourth in the 200 free (1:49.74). Senior Matt Carolan (Northampton Area/Walnutport, Pa.) was fourth in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.21. Ithaca's top divers were junior Norman Nguyen (Brookline/Brookline, Mass.) who placed third on the 1-meter board with 235.95 points and sophomore Derek Rand (Amity/Orange, Conn.) who was fifth on 3-meter with 233.80 points.

Ithaca returns to dual-meet competition Saturday at Rochester.
