Rochester, N.Y.--The Bombers (2-4) dropped a match to Rochester Tuesday evening, falling 25-17, 27-29, 25-19, 25-15. Tuesday night. Freshman Stephanie Lavallato (Hunterdon /Flemington, N.J.) picked up her first career double-double against the Yellowjackets (4-1), with 14 kills and 14 digs. Both figures were career highs.
Ithaca won a back-and-forth second set, which featured eight total ties. After taking a 7-2 lead to open the set, the Bombers allowed a 13-7 run to fall behind 15-14. The two teams traded points to a 21-21 tie before two Yellowjacket attack errors and an ace from sophomore Elizabeth Previte (Hunterdon/Flemington, N.J.) gave Ithaca a three point lead.
The Bombers could not tally the set point, however, and Rochester eventually tied the score at 25. Ithaca had two more chances at set point, before finally taking the set 29-27 on a kill from Previte.
Previte led the team with three aces, and added three kills. Senior Rachel Busch (Hoover/North Canton, Ohio) ranked second to Lavallato with eight kills.
Defensively, sophomore Tina Orlandini (Flintridge Sacred Heart/Altadena, Calif.) led the Bombers with 21 digs, with Lavallato adding 14 and sophomore Taylor Horton (Lakeridge/Lake Oswego, Ore.) adding 11.
Senior Corinna Doctor (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) recorded 30 assists.
The team hosts the Bomber Invitational Friday, and open play with a 2 p.m. match against Baptist Bible.
