ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's soccer team (3-2-2) posted its largest offensive total of the season in a 3-0 win over Marywood (1-5-1) Tuesday afternoon at Carp Wood Field. Ithaca also posted its fourth shutout in seven games this year.
Junior forward Fernando Casanova (Loyola/Santo Domingo, D.R.) scored a goal in each half. He opened the scoring in the third minute of the game when he ran on to a through ball from senior back Michael Jordhamo (Arlington/Hopewell Junction), beat an offsides trap and chipped the ball over the Marywood goalkeeper from about 18 yards out.
The Bombers doubled their lead in the 66th minute when senior midfielder Chris Havis (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) delivered an inch-perfect curling cross from the left wing that Casanova headed over the keeper for his team-leading third goal of the season.
Jordhamo scored his first goal of the year and just the second of his career in the 76th minute. After extensive pressure by the Bombers, senior forward Jeff South (Aptos/Aptos, Calif.) made a heel pass to Jordhamo who fired in a shot from approximately 15 yards out. Jordhamo's three-point game was a career-high.
Ithaca controlled possession and limited Marywood to eight shots in the game. Junior goalkeeper Justin Parlapiano (Stafford/Stafford Springs, Conn.) made two saves in earning his fourth shutout of the year. Ithaca outshot the Pacers 31-8 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bombers begin Empire 8 play Saturday at home when they face Alfred at 1 p.m. Six of Ithaca's next seven games are against league opponents.
