Elmira, N.Y. -- Senior Amy Scheffer (Schalmont/Schenectady) tied school records with three goals and seven points as the ninth-ranked women's soccer team (4-1-0, 2-0-0) routed host Elmira (2-2-0, 0-1-0) 10-2 in an Empire 8 game. Ithaca's 10 goals tied another school record.
Scheffer's hat trick was the 13th recorded by a Bomber and her seven points matched Colleen Masterson (2006), Lacey Largeteau (2004) and Maureen Nolan (1984) for Ithaca's single-game record. Scheffer raised her career total to 73 points, passing Masterson for fifth on the program's all-time list. With 10 more points, she'll pass three Bombers -- including Nolan -- for second place.
Freshmen Caroline Jastremski (Notre Dame Academy/Staten Island Academy) and Rachael Palladino (Lansing/Groton) and graduate student Lauren Koppel (Southside/Rockville Center) all scored a pair of goals. Palladino finished with five points -- assisting on the game's first goal, scored by Koppel -- to raise her season total to a team-high 13. Jastremski's fifth point came on an assist on Palladino's first goal.
Freshman Julie Winn (Sutton/Sutton, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season. Sophomore Megan Trager (Sharon/Sharon, Mass.) and junior Kelly Gannon (Schoharie/Howe Caverns) added assists.
The Bombers' 10 goals tied a school record set against St. Rose in 1987 and tied against Hartwick in 2000. Ithaca has scored 22 goals through five games this fall.
Juniors Alyssa Sotomayor (East Brunswick/East Brunswick) and Jessica Platt (Monument Mountain/New Marlboro, Mass.) split time in goal. Sotomayor made four saves while blanking the Soaring Eagles in the first half. Platt stopped a pair of second-half shots.
Ithaca continues Empire 8 play Saturday, hosting Stevens Institute of Technology at noon.
