Keuka Park--The Bombers swept Keuka 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 to open the 2009 season Tuesday night. Freshman Stephanie Lavallato (Hunterdon/Flemington, N.J.) had a team-high nine kills, and added 11 digs, narrowly missing a double-double in her first career game. Sophomore Chelsea Hayes (Northern Valley Regional/Haworth, N.J.) chipped in seven kills.
As a team, the Bombers recorded more aces than the Storm by a margin of 14-2. Hayes and senior Corinna Doctor (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) each contributed four aces, with sophomore Elizabeth Previte (Hunterdon Central/Flemington, N.J.) tallying three. Junior Taylor Horton (Lakeridge/Lake Oswego, Ore.) and freshman Marissa Woodcome (Pittsford/Pittsford) accounting for the rest of the team's aces, adding two and one, respectively.
Doctor led the team with 23 assists and 12 digs. She also had four kills without an error in 11 attack attempts, hitting .714.
Ithaca registered 10 blocks in the game, including five from sophomore Kate Thoene (Voorhees/High Bridge).
The last time the Bombers opened the season with a win was 2007; they went 30-9 overall that year. The team next competes Friday, opening Juniata's Aasics Invitational with a 6 p.m. match against Eastern.
