ITHACA, N.Y. -- The top-seeded softball team (24-15) lost 1-0 in 16 innings to fourth-seeded Rochester Institute of Technology (19-16) Friday in the second game of the Empire 8 Championship Tournament. The Bombers will face third-seeded Alfred in a 4:30 p.m. elimination game while the Tigers advance to play second-seeded St. John Fisher in Friday's final game. St. John Fisher beat Alfred 3-2 in 11 innings.
The Tigers plated the game's only run on a two-out infield error. Ithaca put just two runners on base in thegame's seven extra innings.
Sophomore #Brittany Lillie# (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) and junior #Alyssa Brook# (Monmouth Regional/Tinton Falls, N.J.) combined to strike out 10 Cardinals while allowing 12 hits in 16 innings of pitching. Brook fanned seven in a seven-inning relief stint.
The game marked the second-longest in the program's 41 years; Ithaca played a 19-inning game against Cortland in 1977.
