Rochester, N.Y. -- The Bombers (13-9, 2-0 E8) swept a pair of games from the host Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers (5-11, 1-3 E8) on Sunday. Ithaca won the first game by a score of 7-6 and took the second game 3-1.
The Bombers trailed 2-0 in Game One until the top of the sixth inning when they scored six runs to take a 6-2 lead. Sophomore Brittany Lillie (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) led off the inning with a solo home run. The solo hot was her second home run of the season. Freshman Annmarie Forenza (Hunterdon Central/Whitehouse Station, N.J.) hit a three-run homer in the same inning to give Ithaca a 4-2 advantage. Forenza's round-tripper was her first career home run as a Bomber.
The Tigers answered in the bottom half of the sixth with a four-run rally to tie the game. In the top of the seventh, junior Katherine Wilson (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) scored the go-ahead run on an RBI single by Forenza. She has now driven in 13 runs on the season. Junior pitcher Alyssa Brook retired the side in the bottom half of the seventh to secure the win. Brook tossed a complete game to pick up her ninth win on the season.
Forenza went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs while Lillie finished 2-for-4 with an RBI in the first game.
In the second game, Ithaca broke a scoreless tie through three innings with a run in the fourth that came off an RIT throwing error. The Tigers responded with a run-scoring double that tied the game.
The Bombers produced two runs in the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Junior Danielle Fazzolare (Plainedge/North Massapequa) reached base on a fielder's choice in the sixth which scored sophomore Kerry Barger (Carmel/Carmel) on the play. Sophomore Courtney Noster (Clearview/Lorain, Ohio) tacked on an insurance run with a sacrifice fly. Lillie scored on the play.
The Bombers return to action Friday, hosting St. John Fisher at 3 p.m.
