ITHACA, N.Y. -- The softball team (16-10, 5-1 Empire 8) swept a doubleheader against visiting Nazareth (9-9, 3-3 Empire 8) Saturday, rolling to a pair of lopsided wins. The Bombers, who took over sole possession of first place in the Empire 8 with the victories, won 12-1 and 17-1 with both games shortened to five innings.
Sophomore Brittany Lillie (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) went eight-for-eight on the day, driving in six runs and scoring four others. She doubled four times.
Sophomore Courtney Noster (Clearview/Lorain, Ohio) and freshman Annmarie Forenza (Hunterdon Central/Whitehouse Station, N.J.) both collected five hits. Forenza capped the day's offensive explosion with a two-run home run in the fifth inning of game two.
Lillie earned the win in game one, throwing a two-hitter and allowing just an unearned run. She pitched two innings of one-run ball in the nightcap. Junior Alyssa Brook (Monmouth Regional/Tinton Falls, N.J.) earned the game-two win with three perfect innings of relief. She struck out eight of the nine batters she faced.
Junior Caitlin Ryan (Allentown/Clarksburg, N.J.) drove in six runs and scored five. Sophomore Kerry Barger (Carmel/Carmel) added four hits.
As a team, the Bombers pounded out 31 hits (including eight extra-base hits) in recording the program's highest-scoring doubleheader since outscoring Lesley 42-0 on March 14, 2001.
Ithaca has won all seven meetings with Nazareth, outscoring the Golden Flyers 73-4.
The Bombers are idle until Saturday, when they travel to Utica for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
