Center Valley, Pa.--Senior Pete MacDaniel (Gansevoort/Schuylerville) threw eight scoreless innings to lead Ithaca (8-3) to a 3-0 win over DeSales (8-7) Sunday afternoon. Freshman Tucker Healy (Needham/Needham, Mass.) pitched a perfect ninth to secure the shutout, the Bombers' second of the season. The team's win was its fourth in a row.
MacDaniel was perfect for the first five innings, not allowing a baserunner until DeSales hit a leadoff single in the sixth inning. MacDaniel allowed only one other Bulldog to reach base, walking a man in the seventh. He struck out a season-high eight batters in the win, his third of the season.
Healy, who registered his third save, struck out two and got a flyout in the ninth.
The Bombers got all the offense they needed in the third inning. Senior Matt Samela (Staples/Westport, Conn.) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and moved to third on a single from fellow senior Kurt Bednarcyk (Fairport/Fairport). Senior second baseman Dylan Perez (Conval Regional/Peterborough, N.H.) drove in Samela on a sacrifice fly to right.
Ithaca added two runs in the fouth, with junior Brian Grastorf (Niskayuna/Rexford) driving in sophomore Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich, R.I.) and senior Alan Kartholl (John Jay/Fishkill) on a double.
The Bombers have their home opener Wednesday, a 3 p.m. game against New Paltz.
