Bombers Sweep in ECAC Opener

Tina Orlandini holds two of three highest dig totals in Ithaca history

ITHACA, N.Y.--Top seeded Ithaca (24-17) won its quarterfinal match at the ECAC Metro/Upstate Volleyball Tournament, sweeping eighth-seeded St. Joseph's (L.I.) 25-14, 25-17, 25-19. The Bombers advance to the semifinal round, with match time and location to be announced. Senior Corinna Doctor (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) became Ithaca's all-time leader in aces, breaking a tie for first.

With four aces in the match, Doctor now has 286 in her career, four more than second-place Jen Salmon, who played from 1998-2001. Doctor also holds Ithaca's assist record. She had 33 against St. Joseph's, giving her 5,533 in her career.

Ithaca hit .265 in the win, while holding the Eagles to a .065 attack. Senior Rachel Busch (Hoover/North Canton, Ohio) and sophomore Kate Thoene (Voorhees/High Bridge, N.J.) each tallied 10 kills. Thoene hit .444.

Defensively, Thoene registered five blocks, including three block solos. She now has 100 on the season, and is the first Bomber to reach triple-digits since 2005.

Sophomore Tina Orlandini (Flintridge Sacred Heart/Altadena, Calif.) led all players with 16 digs. She now was 694 on the season, needing just eight more to set a new career-high.

Semifinal game times and site will be announced Thursday.
