ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 12 Ithaca College volleyball team continued its dominant start to Liberty League play Wednesday night, sweeping RIT, 3-0, inside Ben Light Gymnasium. The Bombers controlled the match from the opening serve, earning a 25-12, 25-17, 25-10 victory to improve to 3-0 in Liberty League play.
Ithaca wasted no time establishing control in the opening set. The Bombers built an early advantage and continued to apply pressure on the Tigers, taking the first set, 25-12. Ithaca's balanced attack kept RIT from finding a rhythm as the Bombers took the early lead in the match.
The second set saw the Tigers put together a stronger challenge, but Ithaca continued to answer each time RIT attempted to gain momentum. The Bombers maintained their lead throughout the set and closed it out, 25-17, moving within one set of the sweep.
With the match on the line, Ithaca delivered its most decisive performance of the night in the third. The Bombers opened a commanding advantage and never let up, closing out the set, 25-10, to complete the three-set sweep and remain unbeaten in conference play.
Offensively,
Naomi Clauhs and
Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu led the Bombers with 10 kills apiece.
Elena Chappell added seven kills, giving Ithaca a consistent offensive presence throughout the match. Orchestrating the offense was
Wesley Slavin, who finished with a team-high 29 assists. Freshman
Camille Ciambruschini provided a spark from the service line, recording a team-best three aces.
Defensively,
Karina Garcia paced the Bombers with nine digs, while
Renee McGowan added seven digs as Ithaca limited RIT to just 39 points across the three sets.
The Bombers now turn their attention to another Liberty League road test. Ithaca will travel to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs on Saturday for a 2 p.m. matchup.
