Three B Cuts For Women's Swimming & Diving in Win

Troy, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team (2-0) won 11 of 13 events in a 153-87 win at Rensselaer Saturday. The Bombers swam three NCAA B qualifying times in the meet. Senior Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) met the qualifying standard in winning both the 50-yard (24.39 seconds) and 100-yard (52.83) freestyle events. Junior Becca Blazak (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, Pa.) made a B cut and won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.13. She also won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.72.

Ithaca started the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay as Blazak and Rhoades were joined by sophomore Amanda Vitullo (Schalmont/Schenectady) and sophomore Cali DeSanto (Mexico/Mexico) in a winning time of 1:53.02.

Other event winners for Ithaca included sophomore Kelly Murphy (Blake/Silver Spring, Md.) in the 1,000 freestyle (11:04.97), freshman Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool) in the 200 free (2:01.57), senior Shannon Archer (Niskayuna/Scotia) in the 500 free (5:35.05) and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Lexi Brawer (Brookline/Brookline, Mass.), Jones, junior Maddie Kennedy (Head Royce/Alameda, Calif.) and junior Joanna Ferreri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) who swam 1:44.77 in exhibition.

Ithaca won both diving events. Senior Naomi Mark (Dansville/Dansville) scored 215.18 to win the 3-meter diving competition and junior Meg Stover (Pennridge/Perkasie, Pa.) scored 205.73 to place first in 1-meter diving.

The Bombers return home to the Hill Center Pool when they host Cortland at 1 p.m. Saturday.
