Final Relay Clinches Win for Bombers

Troy, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team (2-0) outscored Rensselaer 126-117 Saturday at RPI. The Bombers clinched the win by finishing first in the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:17.34, nearly five seconds faster than RPI's top relay team. Freshman Jake Robbins (Fairport/Fairport), freshman Chris Cadwell (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville), junior Steve Croucher (Dallastown/York, Pa.) and sophomore Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.) comprised the winning relay team.

Sophomore Derek Rand (Amity Regional/Orange, Conn.) won the 1-meter diving with a score of 237.53 points and the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 218.48. Ithaca swept the top three places in both diving events with junior Michael Glicini (Dallas/Dallas, Pa.) and freshman Martin Brown (McLean/McLean, Va.) finishing second and third in both events.

Senior Matt Carolan (Northampton/Walnutport, Pa.) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:45.60 to earn Ithaca's first individual event victory of the meet. Sophomore Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:04.89 and Connors won the 100-yard freestyle in 49.45 seconds.

Ithaca hosts Cortland at the Hill Center Pool at 1 p.m. Saturday.
