Springfield Rallies For Football Win

Springfield, Mass.– The Springfield Pride (7-1, 3-1 Empire 8) rallied from a 23-20 halftime deficit to beat the visiting Bombers (5-3, 2-2 Empire 8) 47-26 Saturday.

The Bombers scored touchdowns on their first three possessions. Junior tight end Matt Crandall (Cattaraugus-Little Valley/Cattaraugus) caught a 16-yard pass from senior quarterback Brian Grastorf (Niskayuna/Rexford), freshman running back Clay Ardoin (Dolgeville/Dolgeville) ran for a one-yard score and junior wide receiver Dan Ruffrage (Notre Dame/Whitesboro) threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to junior wideout Thomas Vossler (Loon Lake/Saranac Lake).

Sophomore Andrew Rogowski (Canisius/East Amherst) accounted for Ithaca's other eight points, kicking extra points after two Bomber touchdowns and adding field goals of 32 and 20 yards.

All three Bomber touchdowns involved individual milestones: Crandall recorded his first career touchdown catch, Ardoin – who was playing in his first varsity game – scored his first touchdown as a Bomber and Ruffrage threw his first career touchdown pass. He's the first Ithaca receiver to throw a TD pass since 2004. Ruffrage also caught six passes for 96 yards.

Junior strong safety David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington) led Ithaca with 11 tackles. Junior cornerback Andy Lonsky (Delaware Valley/Milford, Pa.) and freshman defensive end Owen Kugler (Highland Park/Highland Park, Ill.) both made a career-best nine stops.

The Bombers return home for their final two games of the regular season including next week's game against #24 Alfred (7-0, 3-0 Empire 8).
