Rochester, N.Y.--Senior setter Corinna Doctor (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) became Ithaca's all-time leader in assists Sunday, recording 38 against Nazareth at the Empire 8 Crossover. With 5,317 career assists, she broke an eight year-old record. Ithaca lost 3-1 to Nazareth, falling 25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22. The Bombers (20-14, 6-2 Empire 8) and Golden Flyers (22-11, 7-1 Empire 8) will meet up again in the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Championship Tournament.
Jen Salmon, who played from 1998 to 2001, previously held the assists record. Doctor became the new record-holder in the third set, sending a pass to senior Rachel Busch (Hoover/North Canton, Ohio) that ended up as a line drive kill. Doctor already holds the program's season assists record; she tallied 1,603 in 2007. She ended the match against Nazareth with 28 assists. She has 1,126 on the season.
Busch had a match-high 16 kills against the Golden Flyers. She tallied 97 in Ithaca's eight conference matches, and averaged 3.34 per set.
Sophomore Kate Thoene (Voorhees/High Bridge, N.J.) had 13 kills.
The Bombers recorded eight team blocks. Sophomore Karin Edsall (Cornwall Central/Cornwall) had six blocks, including three block solos.
Junior Tina Orlandini (Flintridge Sacred Heart/Altadena, Calif.) led all players with 20 digs. Doctor had 15, and freshman Marissa Woodcome (Pittsford/Pittsford) added 13.
The Empire 8 tournament will be played Nov. 7 at Stevens Institute of Technology. The host Ducks will be the top-seeded team, with Nazareth second, Ithaca third and St. John Fisher fourth.
Ithaca next competes Saturday and Sunday as it hosts the New York State Regional Challenge.
