Victory For Women's Swimming & Diving In Opener

ITHACA, N.Y.—With a score of 169-74, the Bombers opened the season with a win over LeMoyne Friday night. Ithaca took first in 11 of 13 events, including winning both relays. Junior Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) won two individual events and was a member of the victorious 400-yard medley relay.

Rhoades won the 50-yard freestyle (24.32) and 100-yard freestyle (53.12). She was the anchor leg on the 400-yard medley team that swam a Hill Center pool-record time of 4:04.16. Sophomore Missy Keesler (Union-Endicott/Endicott), junior Becca Blazak (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, Pa.) and sophomore Cali DeSanto (Mexico/Mexico) joined her on the winning relay.

Two other Bombers were multiple-event winners. Junior diver Megan Stover (Pennridge/Perkasie, Pa.) took first at both one meter and three meters, scoring 219.10 and 197.10 points, respectively. Sophomore Kelly Murphy (Blake/Silver Spring, Md.) took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:09.06) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.04).

Ithaca next competes Oct. 31 at Rensselaer.
