Men's Swimming & Diving Opens Season With Win

ITHACA, N.Y.—The Bombers defeated LeMoyne 146-92 to open the 2009-10 season Friday night. Ithaca athletes won seven of 13 events and finished in the top-two of every event. Senior Matt Carolan (Northampton Area/Walnutport, Pa.), sophomore Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.) and freshman Martin Brown (McLean/McLean, Va.) were multiple winners.

Carolan swam 11:01.30 to take the 1,000-yard freestyle by over ten seconds. He won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.25. Connors was champion in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. He swam 22.01 in the former and 48.71 in the latter.

Making his collegiate debut, Brown won both diving events. He scored 229.5 points at three meters and 239.0 at one meter.

Sophomore Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) was also an event winner for the Bombers. He swam 2:04.78 in the 200-yard individual medley.

Ithaca next competes Oct. 31 at Rensselaer.
