ITHACA, N.Y.– The women's basketball team (12-5, 8-0 Empire 8) won its eighth straight game Friday, rallying from an eight-point deficit in the final 10 minutes of regulation to beat the visiting Elmira Soaring Eagles (7-10, 2-6 Empire 8) 66-63 in overtime.
Senior forward Tracy Bradley (Lewiston/Brunswick, Maine) and sophomore forward Elissa Klie (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) both recorded double-doubles. Bradley led Ithaca with 19 points and 13 rebound; Klie posted career-best totals of 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots.
Junior guard Lindsay Brown (Immaculate/Danbury, Conn.) converted four free throws in the final 18 seconds to seal the win. After the teams traded baskets to open the extra period, the Bombers took the lead for good on a Klie jumper 50 seconds in. Following Brown's first pair of free throws, Elmira pulled to within a point on a three-point basket with five seconds left, but Brown hit two more free throws and the Soaring Eagles couldn't get off an attempt at the game-tying shot.
Klie scored two baskets and assisted on a third as Ithaca scored eight straight points after the Soaring Eagles had taken their biggest lead (43-35 with 8:04 left in the second half). Just over two minutes later, the Bombers had tied the game (for the first time since early in the first half).
Elmira took its final lead with 26 seconds left in regulation; a lay-up by Klie tied the score 11 seconds later and she blocked a Soaring Eagle shot with three seconds left to preserve the tie.
The Bombers improved to 8-2 in overtime games under Coach Dan Raymond, winning their first overtime contest since beating host Elmira 97-92 in the 2007 Empire 8 Championship Tournament final.
Junior guard #Katherine Bixby# (Germantown Friends/Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded a game-high nine assists – one short of her career high – and scored nine points.
The Bombers continue Empire 8 play Saturday, playing a 2 p.m. game at Utica.
