Hoboken, N.J. – The Ithaca women's soccer team (5-1-1, 2-0-0 Empire 8) defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology (5-2-1, 1-1-0 Empire 8) 2-0 Saturday. The victory extended Ithaca's Empire 8 unbeaten streak to 34 games, and also ended a 44-game home unbeaten streak by Stevens, which stood as the nation's longest consecutive run of home games without a loss.
Ithaca scored twice in the second half to secure the victory. Junior midfielder
Amy Scheffer (Schenectady/Schalmont) opened the scoring in the 48th minute when she curled a direct kick from 28 yards over the wall and into the far corner of the net. It was
Scheffer's fourth goal of the season. Senior forward
Chelsey Feldman (Lynbrook/Hewlett) converted a three-on-one attack in the 61st minute for Ithaca's second goal.
Feldman's seventh goal of the campaign was assisted by junior forward
Winnie Adrien (Blairstown Academy/Blair, N.J.).
Scheffer and
Adrien have points in four straight games.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Alyssa Sotomayor (East Brunswick/East Brunswick, N.J.) earned her third shutout of the season and made two saves. The Bombers haven't allowed a goal in 196 minutes, 48 seconds. Ithaca outshot Stevens 20-8 in the game and 14 Bomber shots were on target.
The Bombers are currently ranked eighth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas New York Region poll, while Stevens is tied for 10th in the regional rankings.
Ithaca hosts Hartwick at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
