Bombers Jump All Over RIT; Increase Win Streak to 15

Senior Rob Raux hit his team leading fifth home run Saturday

Ithaca, N.Y. - The baseball team (18-6, 10-0 Empire 8) continued its winning ways, sweeping the front-end of the weekend series against the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers. With the two wins (3-0, 12-0) the Bombers have increased their winning streak to 10 conference games and 15 games overall.

The Bombers came out swinging in both games, recording a total of 15 runs on the day. Senior outfielders Rob Raux (Illion/Frankfort) and Matt Samela (Staples/Westport, Conn.) each had a three-hit day, with a home run, three RBI's and two runs scored. Raux's homer increased his team-leading total to five, while Samela's was his third. Raux also picked up his first triple on the season.

Freshman third basemen David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington), Ithaca's leading hitter (.521 average, 38 hits), also compiled a three-hit day with a triple, two RBI's and one run scored.

Junior catcher Drew Ash (Morris Knolls/Denville, N.J.) recorded Ithaca's other three-hit performance with a double and two runs scored.

On the mound in game one, senior pitcher Shane Wolf (Lansing/Freeville) tossed a complete game shutout, holding the Tigers to five hits while striking out 10 and walking none over the course of seven innings. With the win Wolf improved his record to 5-1.

In game two junior pitcher Pete MacDaniel (Schuylerville/Gansevoort) and sophomore pitcher Aaron Sapp (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) combined to shut down the Tigers lineup once again. MacDaniel threw five scoreless innings surrendering only two hits while striking out five. Sapp finished the game pitching a perfect two innings, striking out two.

Ithaca is back in action Sunday as they host the Tigers in another double-header at Freeman Field at 1 p.m.
