Alfred, N.Y. – The #21 Bombers (9-1-1, 5-0-0 Empire 8) defeated Alfred (4-8-1, 0-5-0 Empire 8) by a score of 8-0 on Sunday. The win is Ithaca's second by that score in as many days and pushed its conference unbeaten streak to 38 games. Eight different Bombers scored in the game.
The Bombers grabbed an early lead when senior forward Chelsey Feldman (Lynbrook/Hewlett) scored her 11th goal of the season just before the seven minute mark.
Juniors Amy Scheffer (Schenectady/Schalmont) and Winnie Adrien (Blairstown Academy/Blair, N.J.) each scored in the next 5:02 to push the lead to 3-0. They have both recorded at least one point in Ithaca's last eight games. Scheffer also assisted on two goals and is tied with Adrien for the team lead with four assists.
Junior forward Sarah Moore (Amherst Regional/Leverett Mass.) scored her first goal of the season to push the score to 4-0 before the first half ended.
Junior midfielder Emily Mogk (Bozeman/Bozeman Mont.) scored Ithaca's first goal of the second half. She scored after receiving a pass from Scheffer on a free kick. Less than 10 minutes later, sophomore forward Kelly Gannon (Schoharie/Howe Caverns) scored her first goal of the season on a direct kick.
Freshman midfielder Kelly Walsh (Northern Burlington County/Chesterfield, N.J.) and senior forward Lauren Koppel (Southside/Rockville Center) added goals after the 80th minute.
Junior midfielder Liz Masucci (New Providence/New Providence, N.J.) and senior Sara Dowling (Baldwin/Baldwin) both added assists. Dowling's was her first point of the season.
Defensively, Ithaca has not given up a goal in October and its goals-against average has dropped to 0.45. Sophomore goalie Alyssa Sotomayor (East Brunswick/East Brunswick, N.J.) played the first half and saved Alfred's only shot. Sophomore Jessica Platt (Monument Mountain/New Marlborough Mass.) and junior Meredith Young (Lowville Academy/Lowville) split the second half.
Ithaca will visit St. Lawrence for a non-league contest on Saturday.
