1 p.m.; Saturday, October 2, 2004
Butterfield Stadium (c. 5,000); Ithaca, N.Y.

THE GAME: Ithaca returns home to celebrate Homecoming against the Lycoming Warriors this Saturday, October 2. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Ithaca's Butterfield Stadium.

THE COACHES: In his 11th season as Ithaca's head coach, Mike Welch (Ithaca '73) has posted an 82-31 (.726) record, including a regular-season mark of 67-25 (.728). He entered the season 17th among active coaches in winning percentage. A running back who earned two letters while playing for coach Jim Butterfield, Welch succeeded his former coach after spending 10 years as an assistant at his alma mater. He has never faced Lycoming.
______Lycoming coach Frank Girardi (West Chester '61) has posted a 33-year record of 242-76-5 (.757386) with the Warriors, leading them to 11 NCAA playoff appearances including Stagg Bowl losses in 1990 and 1997. He has never faced Ithaca.

THE SERIES: The teams have met just once - the Bombers opened their home season in 1948 with a 25-0 win over Lycoming in a night game on Oct. 1. The 54-year gap is the longest Ithaca has ever waited between games with any opponent.

LAST TIME THEY MET: The 1948 Bomber team, coached by Harold "Pete" Hatch" - a member of Ithaca's Athletic Hall of Fame - finished 4-3 for the program's first winning season since 1940. Two other members of that team have been elected to Ithaca's Athletic Hall of Fame: end Joe Corcoran and back Fred Seither.
