ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College wrestling team received news of some individual honors ahead of this week's NCAA Northeast Regional at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. Freshman 125-pounder Jimmy Kaishian was named Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Rookie of the Week and six wrestlers were mentioned in the latest rankings by the National Wrestling Coaches Association or d3wrestle.com. As a team, Ithaca stands 13th in the NWCA poll and tied for 12th by d3wrestle.com.

Kaishian earned his first ECWC weekly honor this season by being named as the conference's Rookie of the Week following his victory in last week's dual-match win over Cortland. Kaishian started things for the Bombers with a 7-2 decision victory at 125 pounds. In the second period he scored a quick reversal and followed that with a takedown to gain a 4-1 advantage. He added a third-period takedown and riding-time point for the win. Kaishian is 19-10 on the year.

Kristopher Schimek leads the way among ranked individual wrestlers for the Bombers. Schimek is 28-2 on the season with 21 consecutive victories. He is ranked second by the NWCA at 165 pounds and is fourth by d3wrestle.

Alex Gomez stands fourth at 133 pounds in both national polls. Gomez is 23-3 on the year and won his last bout by technical fall in Ithaca's win over Cortland.

Dominick Giacolone returns to the national rankings after missing several weeks due to injury. Giacolone is ranked fifth by the coaches and eighth by d3wrestle at 141 pounds. He is 13-4 on the year.

Freshman Carlos Toribio has a 20-5 record and is 10th in the NWCA poll at 174 pounds and listed in the Contender category by d3wrestle.

The d3 wrestle rankings also list honorable mention rankings for wrestlers who stand from 19th through 26th in individual weight classes. Eamonn Gaffney earned honorable mention at 149 pounds with an 18-9 record and Kevin Collins picked up honorable mention at 157 with his 21-12 overall record.

Competition at the NCAA Northeast Regional will take place Saturday and Sunday.
