SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's cross country team raced to a first-place finish out of eight teams Saturday at the 2013 Empire 8 Cross Country Championships hosted at Saratoga Spa State Park. The Bombers tallied just 29 points to remain the only school to win the title since the conference began sponsoring the sport in 2003. Six of the Bombers' top seven recorded season-best times.
Ithaca had four All-Empire 8 first-team selections. Junior
Alexa Rick finished as runner-up out of 192 runners with a season-best five-kilometer time of 17:55.70. Junior
Hannah Wright, sophomore
Jaime Lisack and junior
Carolyn Malone finished consecutively in fifth, sixth and seventh, all clocking season-best 5K times. Wright crossed the line in 18:21.60, Lisack in 18:23.10 and Malone in 18:24.50.
Earning second-team All-Empire 8 honors were junior
Meghan Cass and sophomore
Rachelle Sartori. Cass placed ninth in 18:31.10 and Sartori earned a 13th-place finish with a time of 18:52.80. Rounding out the Bombers' top seven was sophomore
Anna Fay placing 15th in 18:53.90.
Ithaca will rest for a week before traveling to Mount Morris, N.Y. for the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship hosted by Geneseo on Saturday, Nov. 16.
