Biography

2006-07: Steele enjoyed a spectacular season, earning first-team all-conference and all-region honors. She was the only underclassman on the Empire 8 first-team. She averaged 12.6 ppg and led the team in rebounding (7.9 rpg), field-goal percentage (.488) and blocked shots (53). Steele was named Empire 8 Player of the Week after averaging 20.5 points, 18.5 rebounds and four blocked shots per game in the Empire 8 Championship Tournament. She set a tournament record with 37 rebounds and in the semifinal win over Utica she recorded the program’s first 20-point, 20-rebound game in 25 years. Steele closed out the season scoring in double figures in the last 15 games and finished with six double-doubles, including games of 25 points/19 rebounds and 20 points/17 rebounds at Elmira. She matched a career high with five blocked shots in the title game win over the Soaring Eagles. She was named to the Empire 8 Presidents’ List following the fall and spring semesters.

20005-06: Steele was Ithaca’s top scorer off the bench and ranked second on the team in blocked shots. She exploded for a career-high 26 points in a win over Alfred (the highest-scoring game by a Bomber all season), making 11 of 13 shots in just 21 minutes. Steele added a career-high nine rebounds in that game. In an Empire 8 win at RIT she scored 15 points, pulled down eight rebounds and blocked three shots.

2004-05: Steele played in 16 games for the Bombers as a freshman. She led all freshmen with 19 rebounds and was second with 28 points. In a win over RIT, she scored a career-high eight points in eight minutes.

High School: At Hopkinton High School, Steele was coached by Richard Bliss. She was team captain and MVP as a senior and was a league all-star that season as well. Steele, who earned the team’s coaches’ award as a freshman after helping Hopkinton to a state championship, is the school’s second-leading career rebounder. She also lettered in field hockey.

Personal: A sport media major, she is the daughter of David and Laura Steele.
