Biography

Career statistics

2009: Higgins started every game at tight end and was a first-team pick to the Empire 8 all-star team. His 29 catches marked the seventh-highest single-season total by a Bomber tight end. He caught a career-best seven passes – including his first two touchdowns – in the win over Widener and was named to D3football.com’s Team of the Week. Higgins was named Ithaca’s Honorary Offensive Captain after that win and again after the Frostburg State victory. He caught four passes, including a score, in that win. Higgins made seven receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown in the win at Hartwick. He served as Ithaca’s long-snapper on punts and placekicks for the third year in a row and was named the Bombers’ Outstanding Specialist after the Springfield game. He set up an Ithaca touchdown by recovering a fumbled punt return in the Widener win. Higgins helped seal the Cortaca Jug win by recovering a Red Dragon onside kick in the fourth quarter.

2008: Higgins played in every game for the second year in a row, contributing as a back-up tight end and as the team’s long-snapper. Higgins caught a career-high four passes in the win at Norwich. He also recovered a fumble on a fake punt by the Cadets to set up an Ithaca touchdown. He was named the team’s Hustler of the Week following the win over Alfred that sealed the conference championship.

2007: Higgins was one of the top newcomers to Ithaca’s special teams. He handled long-snapping duties on the punt and placekicking units and recorded three tackles in kick coverage.

High School: A 2007 graduate of Greece Athena High School, Higgins was coached by Rob Cerone. As a senior he served as team captain and earned all-county honors while being named Greece Athena’s defensive MVP.

Personal: A biology major, he is the son of Patrick Higgins and the late Noreen Higgins. His brother, Bob, a 2006 Ithaca graduate, lettered twice as a Bomber defensive back.
