Tyler Johnson joins the Ithaca staff and will coach the defensive line for the 2017 season. Johnson, a recent 2017 graduate of Alfred University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, was a two-time All-American for the Saxons and was the 2016 Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
A four-year starter at quarterback, he led Alfred to a school record 12-1 mark and a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals during his senior season. Johnson passed for 2,903 yards and 29 touchdowns, and rushed for 1,008 yards with 21 more scores. Over the course of his career, Johnson set 10 school records.
Prior to his arrival on South Hill, Johnson worked at the Offense-Defense All-American Football Camp in Brockport, N.Y., where he coached running backs, quarterbacks and linebackers. He also volunteered at Alfred State’s spring practices as a quarterbacks and wide receivers coach.
