Biography

2006: A team captain, Baez was Ithaca’s second-leading rusher (517) and raised his career total to 1,893 yards – good for 10th on the program’s all-time list. He rushed for a 98-yard touchdown in the Buffalo State win – the longest run ever by a Bomber. He ran for a season-best 148 yards in that game and was named Ithaca’s Outstanding Back. Baez recorded three other 50-yard rushing efforts – against Hartwick, Norwich and Alfred. He caught three passes out of the backfield.
 
2005: A second-team Empire 8 all-star, Baez was Ithaca’s leading rusher and ranked fifth in the conference. He also ranked ninth in the conference in scoring. He became the 31st Bomber to reach 1,000 career yards and currently ranks 18th on the program’s all-time list. Baez ran for a career-best 196 yards against Union in the NCAA playoffs, posting Ithaca’s third-best single-game playoff effort ever. He was named Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week after running for a career-high 158 yards in the win over #17 St. John Fisher. Baez scored on a career-long 60-yard run in that win. He ran for two touchdowns apiece in the Hartwick and Springfield wins. In the Empire 8 title-clinching win over Alfred he posted career-best totals of 24 carries, three catches and 28 receiving yards. Baez was named Ithaca’s Outstanding Back after the Buffalo State and St. John Fisher wins and was picked as Honorary Offensive Captain after the win over Brockport. He caught his first career touchdown pass in that game.
 
2004: Baez was Ithaca’s second-leading rusher, despite missing two games with injuries. He started the season’s first five games. Baez ran for a personal-best 78 yards in his first career start in the season-opening win over Buffalo State. He gained 75 yards and scored his first career touchdown against St. John Fisher. He was named Ithaca’s Outstanding Back after that game. He rushed for 59 yards and caught a pair of passes in the Lycoming victory. Baez ran for 74 yards on a career-high 24 carries in the win at Alfred and was named the team’s Hustler of the Week.
 
2003: Baez played in four of Ithaca’s first five games before suffering a season-ending injury in the St. Lawrence win. He made his collegiate debut in the season-opening win over Alfred and gained 28 yards on five carries.
 
High School: A 2003 graduate of Patchogue-Medford High School, Baez was coached by James Chiarello. He was a second-team all-state selection and set Suffolk County’s career rushing record.
 
Personal: A clinical science/physical therapy major, he is the son of Luis and Ann Baez.
