Biography

2005: Canestrari moved to first base and had a career-high 48 RBIs, ranking second on the team and tied for ninth on Ithaca’s single-season list. He registered multiple RBIs in 13 games. Canestrari led the Bombers with 20 steals in 22 attempts, tripling his career total. His three home runs included a grand slam at Cazenovia. He went 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs against Hartwick; he also notched four RBIs against Claremont-Mudd Scripps and collected three hits against Division II Mansfield.
 
2004: Canestrari earned first-team Empire 8 all-star status. He led the team in home runs (three) and RBIs (46) and tied for the lead with 12 doubles and 73 total bases He was second on the team with 17 walks. In the second game of the season he went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs against #15 Kean. He followed that up with a 4-for-5 effort, including two doubles and six RBIs, in a 15-13 win over Occidental. Canestrari had two other five-RBI games.
 
2003: Canestrari ranked second on the team with four home runs and was also among Ithaca’s leaders in slugging percentage (.459) and walks (17). His walk-to-strikeout ratio (17:9) was the team’s best. Canestrari hit the first two home runs of his career in a win at Keuka. In that game he scored three runs and drove in three. He also homered in wins over Hartwick and Utica. He had two doubles, a triple and a home run in the doubleheader sweep at Utica.

High School: A 2002 graduate of Randolph High School, Canestrari was coached by Pete Lit.

Career Statistics

Personal: A business administration major, he is the son of Kathleen Hugg and the late Richard Canestrari. He is a three-year letter winning wide receiver with the Ithaca football team.
