Ithaca College Athletics

2007: Chier was the nation’s leading punt returner, averaging 19.0 yards per return. He earned third-team all-America honors as a kick returner and was a first-team all-region, all-ECAC and all-conference pick. Chier, who was named Ithaca’s Outstanding Specialist at the postseason banquet, scored a pair of punt return touchdowns – a 75-yard touchdown against King’s and a 70-yard return against Utica. In the King’s win he also intercepted two passes and made three tackles to earn a spot on D3football.com’s Team of the Week; he was also named Ithaca’s Honorary Defensive Captain. Chier made a season-high seven tackles against Hartwick and matched that total against #6 St. John Fisher and #1 Mount Union in the NCAA playoffs. He picked up two tackles for loss in consecutive wins at Utica and Springfield. He made his first career sack in the Utica win and was named the team’s Outstanding Specialist. He broke up a pair of passes in the Cortaca Jug win.

2006: Chier played in every game at cornerback. He made his first career start in the Brockport win and stayed in the starting line-up the rest of the season, averaging 4.0 tackles per game in that span. Chier recorded season-best totals of eight tackles and three tackles for loss in the win over #14 Springfield and was named Ithaca’s Outstanding Back. He was picked as the team’s Hustler of the Week after the St. John Fisher game. He intercepted his first career pass in the Homecoming win over Hartwick, returning it 22 yards to set up a Bomber touchdown. Chier was also a standout on Ithaca’s special teams, collecting five tackles in kick coverage and posting averages of 21.0 yards per kickoff return and 17.5 yards per punt return.

2005: Chier spent his freshman season with Ithaca’s junior varsity team.

High School: A 2005 graduate of Chenango Forks High School, Chier was coached by Kelsey Green. As a senior, Chier was a team captain, a Division III all-star at defensive back and running back, played in the Ernie Davis All-Star Game and was named first-team all-state all-metro. He also was a Division III all-star as a junior and helped Chenango Forks become the NYS Class B State Champions in his junior and senior years.
