Biography

2006: Stephens received honorable mention to Football Gazette’s all-America team after leading the Bombers with four interceptions. He started all but one game at free safety and was a first-team pick to the Empire 8, East Region and ECAC all-star teams. Stephens tied a school record by intercepting three passes in the Brockport win. He made six tackles in that game and also forced a fumble (that he recovered himself) on a Bomber kickoff. He was named Ithaca’s Outstanding Back for that performance and was selected the team’s Honorary Defensive Captain following the Hartwick and Alfred games. Stephens made a season-best 10 tackles in the win over #14 Springfield and ranked fourth on the team with 56 on the season. His five passes broken up ranked second on the Bombers. Stephens set up a Bomber field goal in the Cortaca Jug game with an interception and forced a Utica fumble that he recovered himself.

2005: Stephens started at free safety in the season opening win at Buffalo State, making two solo tackles. An injury sidelined him for the rest of the season. He was named Ithaca’s Defensive Scout Team Player of the Week following the Cortaca Jug game.

2004: Stephens was one of Ithaca’s top newcomers, starting all but one game. He ranked third on the team with 66 tackles and was second with four interceptions. His four tackles for loss led the Ithaca secondary. In his first game as a Bomber he collected six tackles and recovered a fumble. Stephens intercepted a pair of passes in the win at Utica, returning one 27 yards for his first career interception. He collected a career-high 13 tackles at St. John Fisher and recorded 12 at Brockport. He was named Ithaca’s Hustler of the Week following the latter game. He forced a fumble and registered his first career sack in the shutout at Alfred. A week later he finished with eight tackles in the Cortaca Jug win. He knocked down a two-point conversion pass attempt in the ECAC postseason win over Massachusetts-Dartmouth.

2003: Stephens played at Wagner College; he was a defensive back for the Division I-AA Seahawks.

High School: A 2003 graduate of Staples High School, Stephens was coached by Marce Petroccio.

Personal: A marketing major, he is the son of Ronald Stephens.
