2007: Sottung made his third straight appearance on both the Empire 8 and New York Region all-star teams. He won all but one of his starts and led the Bombers with 61 strikeouts and four complete games. Sottung threw his fourth career shutout to beat St. Lawrence in a nine-inning game. He fanned eight in that win. He struck out a season-best nine batters in seven innings of two-hit ball to beat St. John Fisher and pitched seven shutout innings against Westfield State in the NCAA playoffs. Sottung struck out six and allowed four hits in that victory.
2006: Sottung was a repeat selection to the Empire 8 and NY Region all-star teams. His eight wins included three complete-game shutouts – one short of the program’s single-season record. He blanked Gettysburg on seven hits and threw consecutive shutouts to beat Hartwick (four hits, career-best 10 strikeouts) and Utica (five hits). He was named Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week twice. Sottung struck out nine Tigers in seven innings in a win at RIT and earned a win over Endicott in the NCAA playoffs.
2005: Sottung earned second-team all-region and first-team all-conference accolades. He won seven games and led the team in ERA (3.37) and strikeouts (65). He won his first five decisions, becoming the first Bomber pitcher in 25 years to start his career 5-0. A two-time Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week, Sottung went 3-0 against conference opponents. He struck out a season-high 11 in seven innings against Utica and fanned 10 in six innings against Hartwick. He pitched a four-hitter over eight innings to beat Centenary in the NCAA playoffs.
High School: A 2004 graduate of Pulaski High School, Sottung was coached by Butch Talpin. He was a four-time first-team all-league pick and was a second-team all-state selection as a senior.
Personal: A health and physical education major, he is the son of Dwight and Marsha Sottung. His cousin, Kyle, a 2004 Ithaca graduate, is the program’s winningest pitcher.
