Biography
2003-04: Cleary was a first-team Empire 8 and second-team East Region and ECAC Upstate NY all-star. She received honorable mention to DIII News’ all-America team. Cleary recorded more steals than any player at any level of college basketball, setting a school record with 154. She led the team in scoring and ranked second in the Empire 8 while also ranking among the conference leaders in three-point baskets, free-throw percentage and assists. Cleary was named Empire 8 Player of the Week five times and earned ECAC Upstate NY weekly honors twice. Her 10 20-point efforts included a season-best 27 in the Empire 8 title win over St. John Fisher. She set a school record with 16 free throw attempts in that game, making 12. In earlier wins over St. John Fisher she posted career-best totals of eight rebounds and 12 steals. She moved from 18th to fifth on the program’s career scoring list and became the second Bomber to reach 1,000 career points as a junior.
2002-03: Cleary earned second-team all-conference honors after leading the Empire 8 in scoring. Her 447 points were the program’s third-highest total. Cleary ranked second in the league in steals and fifth in three-point baskets (falling two short of Ithaca’s single-season record). She was named Empire 8 Player of the Week twice and earned third-team all-region recognition. She scored a career-high 30 points in the NCAA playoff win over Brockport, and recorded eight other 20-point efforts. Cleary tied a school record with five three-point baskets in a win over Utica. She collected seven assists and four steals in a league win over Alfred. Cleary was an all-tournament pick at Southern Maine’s season-opening tournament.
2001-02: Cleary was one of the region’s top freshmen. She led the Empire 8 in three-point field-goal percentage (34.7 percent) and ranked third in steals, averaging 2.48 per game. A two-time Empire 8 Rookie of the Week, she received honorable mention on the league’s all-star team. Cleary was Ithaca’s leading scorer in seven games and recorded a pair of 20-point efforts off the bench, netting 20 at Oneonta and a season-best 22 at Hamilton. She pulled down a career-high seven rebounds at Cazenovia, then collected a personal-best six steals at Alfred.
High School: At Tappan Zee High School, Cleary was coached by Bill Lynch. With 2,155 career points, she is Rockland County’s all-time leading scorer.
Personal: An English major, she is the daughter of Stephen and Joyce Cleary.
