High School: A 2018 graduate of Elmira Notre Dame High School, Smith played four years of varsity baseball. He was named Second Team All-Conference his junior season and earned a Second Team All-Region distinction his senior year. Smith was also the team MVP and captain in his final season.

Personal: The son of Tom and Kathy Smith, Matt is a business administration major. His sister, Natalie, also attends Ithaca.
