ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team continued its undefeated start to the season, blanking Smith College, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon.
It was all Bombers from the jump as Ithaca pressed the Bears' defensive zone early. It took just 3:47 for IC to score its first goal of the day, as
Jayne Bogle battled in the corner before sending a cross in front of the goal. The Smith keeper was able to get a hand on it, but
Sophie White cleaned it up with a low shot to the right to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead.
Ithaca continued to press throughout the first half, sending 25 shots toward goal while holding the visitors to just two.
The second half played out much like the first, but this time it took just six minutes for IC to find the back of the net. Bogle added a goal to her stat line at 51:02 before
Lilyana Baldi added a score of her own just 22 seconds later to seal the fate of the Bears.
Despite holding a sizable lead, the Bombers did not let up, as Smith cycled through three goalkeepers. Blair Pasarkar started before Riley Cioffi-Smith entered for a 19:38 stint, followed by Catalina Mozzo, who closed out the final 12 minutes. The trio faced 18 shots on goal, stopping 15 of them.
On the other end for the hosts,
Katrina Varnum played all 90 minutes, turning away two shots for her first shutout of the year.
Bogle led the way with three points, while White and Baldi followed closely behind with two points each.
The Bombers will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Nazareth University on Saturday, September 12, for a noon contest.
