ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College men's soccer team fell to Hamilton College, 3-0, in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Carp Wood Field. The Bombers created several opportunities throughout the opening half, but the Continentals broke through late in the period before taking control in the second half to secure the shutout and their second win of the season.
The match opened with plenty of energy from both sides, with Hamilton applying pressure early before Ithaca began to find its rhythm. The Bombers created several opportunities in the attacking third, including attempts from
Joshua Bourdoulous and
Emile Antoine, but Hamilton's goalkeeper kept Ithaca off the scoreboard.
Ithaca continued to generate chances through set pieces late in the half. With just over eight minutes remaining, the Bombers earned a free kick following a Hamilton foul.
Liam Breslin put the ensuing attempt on frame, but Hamilton's goalkeeper made the save to keep the match scoreless.
Despite Ithaca's pressure throughout much of the opening 45 minutes, Hamilton found the breakthrough with 4:17 remaining in the half. Sean Kirtin connected on a cross inside the box to put the Continentals ahead, 1-0, with his first goal of the season.
The Bombers came out looking to respond in the second half, but Hamilton quickly took control of the match. The Continentals dominated possession and forced Ithaca to spend extended stretches defending in its own half.
Hamilton doubled its advantage early in the second half, converting a rebound to make it 2-0. The Continentals added another goal with just over 31 minutes remaining, pushing their lead to 3-0.
Ithaca continued to battle through the final whistle, producing one final shot on goal with 15 seconds remaining and earning a corner kick in the closing seconds. The Bombers were unable to convert, however, as Hamilton completed the 3-0 shutout.
The Bombers will return to Liberty League play on Saturday, Oct. 3, when they take on Skidmore College at 2 p.m.
