ITHACA N.Y. - The No. 23 ranked Ithaca College field hockey team hosted the Susquehanna University River Hawks for All in ALS/Kids Day. The Bombers would take down the River Hawks 3-1 for their sixth win of the season.
The game would open up with some pregame festivities discussing some members of the community who have had ALDS, then announcing a few of the kids experiencing Kids Day with the Bombers' players.Â
The first quarter would start with both teams being deadlocked between the 25's. Each team just used this frame to feel each other out. IC would only tally two shots in this quarter.Â
But the second quarter would be quite the opposite. Both the Bombers and River Hawks would combine for five total shots, four corners and each goaltender would be forced to make saves.Â
However, Susquehanna goalkeeper Kylie Schmidt couldn't stop the Bombers' penalty corner. On its first corner of the game IC's
Ellie Gipe would find
Brooke Snider in the inner circle and Snider picked up her first goal of the season and got the Bombers on the board 23 minutes in.Â
The River Hawks would get a few opportunities but were unable to put the ball past Liberty League Defensive Player of the Week,
Maeve Clark. Clark would be forced to make four saves and stop five corners.Â
The second half of the game would be all offense. As the Bombers would start the scoring.
Breeah Shaw would pocket a D-to-D pass from two River Hawk defenders. Then stretch it ahead to
Mia Woodard. Woodard wouldn't hesitate and score, putting the Bombers ahead by two.
Shaw would add her name to the score sheet yet again. She would capitalize on a long shot from the top of the circle to pick up her fourth goal of the year in the 56th minute.Â
The final frame would give the River Hawks its first goal since Sept. 4 as Kiara Koeller would send one over the head of
Maeve Clark, beating Clark up high, putting one on the board for the River Hawks.Â
IC will play its first game of conference play next Saturday, Sept. 26 against Union College. Â
