ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team once again found themselves in a close battle on Saturday afternoon at Higgins Stadium as the Bombers hosted Union College in a Liberty League matchup, but IC was on the wrong end of a 13-12 overtime decision. Ithaca is now 6-3 on the season and 3-1 in the Liberty League.
Ithaca showed resilience from the opening quarter, responding quickly after Union scored first.
Lily Cody evened the game with an early goal, sparking momentum for Ithaca. The Bombers continued to build on that energy as
Aubrey Holowinski added another score to give Ithaca its first lead. Strong defensive pressure and controlled possessions helped Ithaca settle into the game, with the teams ending the opening period tied 3–3 after an evenly played start.
Ithaca found its rhythm in the second quarter, using balanced scoring and disciplined play to gain separation. Goals from
Kathryn Scallon,
Kelly Augeri and
Katelyn Ikle highlighted a productive stretch that allowed Ithaca to take control. The Bombers moved the ball efficiently in the offensive zone and generated multiple quality shot opportunities while maintaining composure defensively. Their ability to capitalize on possessions helped Ithaca build a 9–7 advantage and carry momentum into halftime.
The second half remained competitive, but Ithaca continued to respond each time Union threatened. The Bombers converted key free-position and man-up opportunities, with Cody contributing multiple clutch plays. Ithaca's defense forced turnovers and created transition chances, while goalkeeper
Mikaela Dattilo made several important saves to preserve the lead. Even as Union battled back, Ithaca consistently found answers to maintain control throughout the third and fourth quarters.
In the closing minutes, Ithaca demonstrated determination under pressure. After Union took a late lead, the Bombers executed in the final seconds, as
Leigh Naturale finished a last-second goal off an assist from Cody to force overtime. Ithaca continued to generate chances in the extra period and battled until the final whistle.
Despite the narrow overtime result, Ithaca's strong offensive execution, timely defensive stops, and late-game composure highlighted an impressive and hard-fought performance throughout the contest. The Bombers take on Bard on Saturday at home at Higgins Stadium for another Liberty League matchup.
Ithaca hosts Bard and Vassar next Friday and Saturday.
