Men’s Lacrosse Dominate No. 15 St. Lawrence on Saturday

Ithaca N.Y.- The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team defeated the nationally ranked No. 15 St. Lawrence University Saints 14-5 in a Liberty League matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Bombers improved their record to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League.

Ethan Adrid immediately got the Bombers on the board as he streaked through the middle of the field to score the first goal of the game 30 seconds into the match. A couple of minutes later, Adrid then set up Brendan Occhino with a cross pass that allowed Occhino to find the back of the net. Ryan Connolly then gave the Bombers a three-goal lead with his first tally of the game which he fired past the keeper.

The Saints started to claw their way back towards the end of the first quarter when they scored back-to-back goals in 42 seconds to cut the lead to 3-2. However, before the end of the frame the Bombers struck one more time as Occhino wrapped around from behind the net to score his second of the game, and give the Bombers a 4-2 lead to end the first quarter.

After some strong defensive play to start the second quarter from both teams, Ithaca rattled off two more goals in 43 seconds. The first came a man-up when from behind the net Lucas Proctor fed the ball to Jack Giannuzzi, who ripped a shot through to extend the Bombers lead. Then Danny Loss scored the second for the pair as the Bombers hurried down the field after winning the faceoff to make the score 6-2. St. Lawrence then rallied yet again towards the end of the frame as they scored another pair of goals in just over a minute to end the half 6-4.

In the third quarter, the Bombers took a commanding lead, scoring five unanswered goals, bringing the score to 11-4. Ethan Adrid scored the first a man-up 14 seconds into the half and was assisted by Lucas Proctor. Followed by a goal three minutes later from Brendan Occhino completing his hat trick, and the goal was assisted by Loss. Tim Rogers and Cullen Adams then each scored a goal to extend the Bombers lead, before Occhino scored his fourth goal of the game, assisted by Giannuzzi.

In the fourth quarter St. Lawrence came out firing causing the Bombers to take an early penalty, but the Bombers stood tall defensively, halting the Saints' momentum. Then midway through the final frame, Ithaca scored two more goals 18 seconds apart, the first coming from Rogers assisted by Sam Baker and the second was Liam Alberti assisted by Ryan Connolly. Then each team closed out the scoring with one more goal a piece ending the game 14-5.

Brendan Occhino led the Bombers offensively with four goals and an assist, meanwhile Liam Alberti was 16-for-19 at the faceoff X and Andrew Minard collected eight saves in the win.

The Bombers will be in action again on the road on Saturday, April 4 afternoon at 12:00 p.m. against (RV) Union College.
