GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team competed on the road Thursday against Hobart College in a tightly contested match that ultimately came down to the final matchup at No. 4 singles.
Luis Crespo came out on top, earning a three-set win as the Bombers earned the 4-3 victory over the Statesmen.
The Bombers claimed the doubles point to take an early 1–0 lead, earning victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Gijs Fidler and
Samuel Lopez-Cardenas posted a 7–6 win over the top Hobart duo of Aidan Staunton and Nicholas Fischer, while
Ean Lantzy and
Luis Crespo secured a 6–3 victory against Achilleas Kousardis and Everett Reid.
Hobart responded with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, but Fidler shifted momentum back in Ithaca's favor with a three-set victory at No. 2 singles. He defeated Staunton by scores of 4–6, 6–4, 6–3.
Carlos Hernandez also earned a three-set win for the Bombers, coming back to defeat Reid Everett, 4–6, 6–3, 6–0. However,
Samuel Lopez-Cardenas fell in straight sets (7–6, 6–4), setting up a match-deciding team point at No. 4, which was also highly contested.
Luis Crespo dropped the opening set 6-2, but responded by taking the next two by set scores of 6-4 as the Bombers earned their first Liberty League win of the season.
Ithaca improves to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play and will host Vassar College on Sunday at 10 a.m.
