ITHACA, N.Y. – Back in Liberty League play for the second time this week, the Ithaca College men's tennis team gave Vassar College all it could handle on Sunday but ultimately fell 4-3 to the Brewers.
Vassar claimed the doubles point by earning the victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, the Bombers duo of
Ean Lantzy and
Luis Crespo rallied from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the team of Pedro Cattaruzzi and Junchen Jia, 7-5 for the lone Ithaca doubles win.
In singles play, junior
Gijs Fidler went toe-to-toe with Vassar's Eugene Lee in the No. 1 match, but fell in a highly contested 2-6, 6-4, 5-7 decision. At No. 2 singles,
Ivan Kisic earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Fernando Bauermeister. Crespo added a win for the Bombers at No. 4 singles, cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Ithaca's final win came at No. 5 singles when
Carlos Hernandez worked his way to a 7-5, 6-3 win against Jonas Santos.
The Brewers earned wins at No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-4) and No. 6 singles (6-2, 7-5) to win the match.
The Bombers now sit at 6-4 overall and 1-1 in Liberty League play and will host TCNJ for a 2 p.m. match. on Saturday, April 4.
