GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team played outdoors for the first time this spring on Wednesday afternoon, opening Liberty League play at William Smith. The Herons earned a 6-1 victory, improving to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Bombers fell to 3-5 and 0-1 in the league.
William Smith swept doubles play to take an early 1-0 lead. At No. 3 doubles,
Martina Nicora and
Ekaterina Kelly faced a strong challenge from Marin Montagne and Mia Jacobs, but the Heron pairing held on for a 7-5 victory.
In singles action,
Madeleine Sutro battled Grace Magna at No. 3, with Magna securing the win by set scores of 6-4, 7-6. The Herons went on to earn victories at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles. At No. 2,
Sabrina Cheung pushed Haley Levine to three sets before ultimately falling, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0.
Alys Pop would earn a victory in the top singles spot taking down Mae Kellersman by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
The Bombers will host Vassar College in another Liberty League matchup slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.
