Ithaca Men’s Tennis Drops Close 4–3 Decision to No. 26 NYU

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team hosted No. 26 NYU inside Glazer Arena on Sunday afternoon, falling just short in a tightly contested 4–3 loss to the visiting Violets.

NYU secured the doubles point by claiming victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, though the Bombers found success at No. 2 doubles. The pairing of Luis Crespo and Ean Lantzy earned a convincing 6–3 win over Ryan Lyn and Shido Ito.

The Violets carried their momentum into singles play, as Niklas von Hellens defeated Ivan Kisic at the top flight by a score of 6–3, 6–2. NYU also picked up wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots to build its lead.

Ithaca responded with a strong showing in the middle and lower half of the lineup. Luis Crespo sparked a comeback with a hard-fought, three-set victory over Shido Ito, rallying for a 3–6, 6–4, 6–3 win. Carlos Hernandez followed with a straight-set triumph at No. 5 singles, defeating Cooper Kine 6–3, 6–2.

The Bombers pulled within one point when Samuel Lopez-Cardenas earned a victory after his opponent was forced to retire due to injury, setting the final score at 4–3 in favor of NYU.

Ithaca (5–3) will open Liberty League play on Thursday, March 26, traveling to Hobart College for a 4 p.m. matchup.
