ONEONTA, N.Y. – The No. 22 ranked Ithaca College men's wrestling team was in top form on Saturday as they went 3-0 at the SUNY Oneonta quad, which included a three point win over No. 19 Williams College.
NO. 22 ITHACA 22, NO. 19 WILLIAMS COLLEGE 19 (F)
Cosmo Damiani earned the Bombers a quick six team points at 125 lbs. earning the fall over Lucas Johnson in 2:05. At 133,
Jay McDonnell would then score early and often taking down Jake Strianese in a 13-2 major decision.
No. 10 NWCA nationally ranked
Isaias Torres kept things rolling for Ithaca earning the third straight-win, this time defeating Tyler Stubbs in a 17-2 technical fall, putting the Bombers up 15-0. No. 19 Williams found a response taking the next three bouts to cut the deficit to three (15-12).
In a battle of No. 5
Konrad Parker and No. 8 Gabe Wiggins, the Ephs were able to tie it up at 15-15, with Wiggins coming away with a 5-3 decision. Williams continued to roll with No. 11 ranked Jamie Evarts getting the better of
Xavier Pommells in a 14-10 decision.
Eamon Callaghan bumped up to 197 lbs. and he delivered with three takedowns to score a 9-3 decision over Zach Borzio as the Bombers trailed 19-18 going into the final bout.
After a scoreless opening period,
Kamdyn Dorchester opened the second stanza on top but Connor Reynolds escaped taking control of a loose leg to earn the 2-1 advantage. Dorchester tied it early in the third with an escape point as the bout went into the second overtime period where he came up with a big-time reversal to score the 4-2 decision.
NO. 22 ITHACA 34, SUNY ONEONTA 10 (F)
The Bombers saw Andrew Aparo fall in the opening bout against Oneonta via a 11-3 major decision.
George McAteer found an immediate response at 133 for IC as he delivered a 15-1 major decision over Jack Borowiek.
Isaias Torres would score his second win of the day taking down Avery Leonard in a 13-4 major decision to give Ithaca the 8-4 team lead.
Will Bentrim fell in a 7-1 decision to Kingston Strouse at 149 lbs., but
Brian Bienus would quickly earn IC three team points when he defeated Matt Verry in a 10-4 decision.
Chris Reddy would drop his bout but Ithaca would then close out the dual by winning the final four in a row.
Konrad Parker would score a 18-2 technical fall over Wesly Guzman at 174 and
Xavier Pommells returned to his winning ways by pinning Brandon Cirincione in 1:06. That started a run of three straight-falls as
Eamon Callaghan pinned Jason Gielarowski (1:47) and
Charlie Turner would do it in the third period over Kenny Jackson (6:07) to cap the dual and 34-10 team win.
NO. 22 ITHACA 37, WESLEYAN (CT) 9 (F)
The Bombers completed a perfect 3–0 day with a victory over Wesleyan University. Despite dropping the opening bout,
Jay McDonnell responded with a bonus-point win, earning a fall over Taylor Tan at 133 pounds (1:26).
A nationally ranked matchup followed at 141 pounds, as No. 5 Hayden Myers faced No. 10
Isaias Torres in a bout that went to overtime. Torres ultimately prevailed, 4–1. Wesleyan then claimed the next two bouts to even the dual score at 9–9.
From there, it was all Ithaca, as the Bombers captured the next five bouts, four of which came with bonus points.
Chris Reddy held Akiva Lind scoreless in a 16–0 technical fall, while
Konrad Parker added five more team points with a 19–4 technical fall over Ben Ronca.
The dual was capped off with
Xavier Pommells earning a fall over Roman Martinez in just 49 seconds, and
Eamon Callaghan finished 3–0 on the day by pinning Wynton Bowers in 4:40.
Charlie Turner secured a forfeit at heavyweight, sealing the 37–9 team victory.
Next up, Ithaca (10-6) will have a crosstown matchup at SUNY Cortland (4-4) slated for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11.
