Men's Soccer Nets Second Half Goal to Down Union, 1-0, on Senior Day

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team improved to 8-1-7 overall and 1-0-5 in the Liberty League with a 1-0 win over Union College on Senior Day on Saturday at Carp Wood Field, behind a second-half goal from senior defender Colin Adams.

Ithaca honored its seniors in a pregame ceremony before the match.

Union had the first threat of the afternoon when Gavin Blake's shot sailed wide left in the sixth minute. Kofi Sarfoh then tested Brayden Milbrandt twice, at 8:32 and 13:41, and Milbrandt made the save both times to keep the game scoreless.

Ithaca settled in and started to create chances of its own. Juan Gonzalez-Mayoral sent a shot just high at 15:25, and Joshua Bourdoulous did the same at 33:52. The Bombers also earned three corner kicks in the first half, while Union had one. Pat Morano and Kaden Bono each added a shot late in the half, but the teams went to intermission tied 0-0, with Ithaca holding a 4-3 edge in shots.

Ithaca broke through early in the second half. At 52:52, senior Colin Adams lofted the ball over Union goalkeeper Dmitri Wild-Arons, who had come out of the net and tried to clear it away, for his second goal of the season. Fellow defender CJ Abbott picked up the assist.

The Bombers kept the pressure on after taking the lead and outshot Union, 12-3, in the second half. Liam Breslin forced a save from Wild-Arons at 56:18. Bourdoulous tested him at 63:39, and Declan Clark did the same soon after, while Abbott sent a shot just over the bar.

Union pushed for the equalizer late, earning three corner kicks between the 64th and 70th minutes, but Milbrandt turned away Luca Mazzilli at 68:26 and Josiah Blake at 81:28 to preserve the shutout.

Ithaca outshot Union, 16-6, and each team put four shots on goal. Bourdoulous and Breslin each had three shots, while Clark and Gonzalez-Mayoral added two apiece. Milbrandt made four saves in goal, and Wild-Arons made three for Union.

The Bombers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 21, when they host Rochester Institute of Technology for a 7:30 p.m. contest at Butterfield Stadium.
