Women’s Basketball Overwhelm Bard in Liberty League Win

ITHACA, N.Y. – A balanced scoring attack led the Ithaca College women's basketball team to a 71-45 rout over Bard College on Saturday afternoon inside Ben Light Gymnasium. Sophomore Madison Gill led all scorers, turning in 16 points and going 4-of-7 from beyond the arc to power the Bombers to a Liberty League win.

Tori Drevna and Grace McNamara added nine points apiece, with Drevna leading all players, dishing out four assists.

From the jump the Bombers controlled the tempo, as early free throws by Avery McPeek gave IC an early lead as they never looked back. After the Raptors tied the game at 8-8, Ithaca used an 11-2 run to close out the final five minutes of the opening quarter. The Bombers continued to inflate their lead in the second, with McNamara and Drevna combining to score the first five points of the period. The duo ended the quarter the same way they started, each knocking down a bucket to see the hosts leading 37-20 at the half.

Maintaining momentum in the third quarter, IC started the new half on a 10-0 run that spanned over the first two minutes. Madalyn Barrows ignited the run, as a pair of Gill triples highlighted that stretch for the Bombers. At the conclusion of the third, Ithaca led 59-29, outscoring the Raptors 22-9 in the quarter.

Twelve Bombers recorded points in the win. Barrows and Zoraida Icabalceta led the way on the glass, bringing down five rebounds each. IC was able to turn 27 Bard turnovers into 31 points, and finished with 18 second chance points in the victory. Ithaca also tallied 23 fast break points, limiting the Raptors to none.

Ithaca improves to 7-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The Bombers return to action on Jan. 23 with a road contest at Clarkson as they will remain in the North Country to take on St. Lawrence on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
